device that keeps your RC Vehicle running. The glow plug is small and looks
like a pencil-shaped piece of metal with a heating element at the tip. When
electrified the heating element heats up and emits a small light. Glow plugs
generate heat and direct it to the cylinders, which serves to warm the engine.
This helps in the starting process of the engine.

Here is some simple information about Glow Plugs that you should know.

The filament is very weak, so touching it is not advised because you could
ruin the plug

Quality glow plugs will aid in the protection of your motor

No moisture. Glow plugs should be stored in a dry place

Make sure it is the right glow plug for your RC Vehicle

Follow procedures for your engine

Glow plugs might be ruined when breaking in your engine

Maintain your engine

Nitro detonation might occur if your using the wrong glow plug

Use correct starter

Ask informed RC enthusiasts

Quality Glow Plugs

Buying a quality glow plug is essentiall if you want to keep up with the rest
of the pack. Quality glow plug have a more consistent tune and heat and will
often outlast the cheaper plugs. The extra cost will be short lived and your
glow plug will outlast the cheaper ones and pay for itself in time.

Types of Glow Plugs

Ther’re two types of glow plugs, Standard and Turbo. A turbo plug will work
for any turbo engine and will increase the power a little. The turbo plug is
tapered so it fits to the motor nice and snug. Standard plugs are used for regular
engines and only shoud be used for such. Using a turbo glow plug in regulare
engine will not work very well and may not work at all.

Well I hope this information has given you something to keep in mind when look
for the right glow plugs.

Till next time!

The pros and cons of electric radio control (RC) vehicles versus Nitro RC vehicles has been discussed by many. With more powerful technology and advancements in brushless electric motors, newer battery’s, electric motors, and Electronic Speed Controllers allows the electric remote control vehicles to have performances similar to that of Nitro powered vehicles. These advances made the questions of Nitro RC vehicles vs. Electric RC vehicles a little more troublesome and harder to determine.

Electric Vehicles

Pros:

Almost noiseless (Very Quite)

Less maintenance

Indoor use

Reverse feature

A brushless motor can provide higher acceleration, longer runtimes, and similar speeds equal to nitro vehicle

Ease of use

Cons:

Run time is limited by your battery capacity

Additional batteries, and a fast field charger

Batteries with a higher capacity (expensive)

Not as realistic (No smoke or noise)

Nitro Vehicles

Pros:

Provides more realism in the experience (Noise and smoke)

Long runs

Add fuel and go

More power with larger nitro engines

Learn mechanical skills

Are typically faster than brushed electric remote control vehicles

Cons:

Starting, operating, and maintaining your engine

Prohibited in certain areas because of noise and smoke

Higher operating cost

No reverse features (limited exceptions)

Cannot be used indoors

Purchasing nitro fuel (excluded shipping in some areas)

Weather it be Electric or Nitro these vehicles will provide lots of fun for the RC hobbyist. By assessing your needs and the pros and cons of electric vs nitro you should be able to determine which type would be best for you.

Till next time!

THE EVOLUTION® GAS ENGINE ADVANTAGE

The Evolution® 10GX small-block engine is revolutionizing RC aviation. Countless modelers have discovered the benefits 10cc gas power
offers in aircraft formerly dominated by .40-size glow power. Now there are equally phenomenal gas engine choices for airplane lovers
with models requiring a .61- to 1.80-class engine. Purpose built for RC, the new 15GX, 20GX and 33GX engines are designed to meet the
demands that matter most—performance and reliability. But the rewards don’t stop there.

• Low operational cost and simplicity
• Great power and performance for demanding RC pilots
• Lightweight electronic ignition provides superior reliability and the ability to use a 2S Li-Po battery without a regulator
• Standard beam mount installation makes conversion effortless
• Better fuel economy means a smaller fuel tank requirement and additional weight savings

From installation and setup to first-flip starting, using an Evolution small-block engine is easy. The only hard part is choosing which airplane
gets a new Evolution engine first. No matter what, you’ll see up to a 90% decrease in your cost per flight expenses, which makes Evolution
the clear choice for RC pilots who want to fly more with fewer hassles.

RC Tire Wear and Tear

When racing your Remote Control Cars and Trucks, whether its for the enjoyment or in a competitive setting, one of the key points to this hobby is tire maintenance.
For some of the tires out there they can wear out quickly while some hold up better than their counterparts. Also depending where you’re racing and track
condition, this can also play a big part on the longevity of your tires. Track conditions and using the right tires play a big part in tire degradation and
you should be aware of these issues when racing.

Dry and rough track condition will play havoc on your tires while running or racing RC Cars or Trucks and selecting the right tires for these conditions
also play a big role in how your tires hold up. Using hard composite tires will help on rough and dry track conditions but this will affect the traction and
control of the RC vehicle. If you’re using soft tires you will have more traction and grip with more control but the tires will wear out rather quickly.
One option to help the life of your tires is to wet down the track before racing. When wetting down the track there could be less traction for the RC vehicles and
this could result in slower lap times, but the big positive for doing this, is that you will save your tires from some of the wear and tear.

So remember, using soft compound tires are great for traction in certain environments but they can tend to wear out fast. Hard compound tires will last longer but
may have an impact on performance. So this can be the dilemma that most racers experience. Are you willing to continue to replace your tires at a high rate
or do you help maintain them and choose the right tires for the right situation? Well I hope this sheds some light on Tire Wear and Tear for the RC enthusiast.

Cold Weather and Remote Control Vehicles

During this time of the year the temperatures drop in most areas of the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. When these temperatures do drop it can affect most Remote Control Vehicles, their performance, run times (Batteries), and most of all you. For some of the brave souls out there that venture out into the cold of winter because of their passion for Remote Control Vehicles whether it be flying or driving there are issues that arise and should be known to anyone that wants to pursue their hobbies in these types of environments.

Indoor areas are ideal but can be a challenge to find at a suitable location that is close enough and has enough space to accommodate your needs as a Remote Control Hobbyist. To all of you that have that luxury, hats off to you. At least with an indoor location you can avoid most of the issues that are associated with using your Remote Control Vehicles in cold weather.

What are some of the issues associated with cold weather flying, and driving? At what temperatures do we start to see slower performance, and slower runtimes? These are just some of the questions being asked about it. First I would like to add that we are talking about battery operated vehicles and not Nitro RC vehicles. For now we are focusing on Battery powered vehicles, and at some other point I will discuss issues about Nitro Vehicles.

Some of the issues that RC enthusiast endure during the cold season are shorter run times, vehicle performance, and cold fingers. All RC Vehicles are not created equal and all can be affected differently in cold weather. Once the cold temperature plummets to about freezing or below you can start to experience some issues while running your RC vehicle. Performance can be sluggish and handle slower in conditions of 50°F or lower. An option for this is to keep you RC vehicle warm before use. Also you should use waterproof RC Vehicles and electronics because of moister and snow. These things will damage your ride and end your fun and can be costly to replace. Another issue to beware of is that plastic can become very brittle in the cold and could cause breakage while being used, but there are some stronger plastics that hold up better in the cold. Shorter run times will help to prevent this but there is still a risk of breakage.

Cold weather and batteries are a big issue as well when it comes to flying or driving your Remote Control Vehicles. At freezing or even colder condition you should expect shorter run time as a result. Your run times could be cut down to about half or even more than that depending if the battery is exposed or covered. One way to help with this problem is to pre warm your batteries to 90-100°F (32-38°C) before using them. However you must be careful not to warm them up past their maximum safe temperature of 140°F (60°C). Remember that your battery will heat up as it is being used. One more option would be to use a NiMH pack, because LiPo chemistry cells do not perform well at or below freezing, and permanent damage could be done to the cells in extreme conditions.

You can still enjoy your fun even in these cold conditions if you take some extra precautions as were mentioned. On another note stay warm while you’re out there in the cold. Too much exposure in the cold can lead to hypothermia and frost bite. Dress warm and wear gloves. If gloves give you any problems, you could always find some fingerless gloves that help, and still allow for easy control on the remote. As always, fly and drive safe, and enjoy.

Entertainment and enjoyment for people of all ages. Model trains can just be the thing that can do that. The model train set never seems fade or go out of style and provides entertainment for everyone.

Model train sets may cut into you budget, so a better way to get your train set together is just to purchase one item at a time and build your set to your needs. Most model train will last for years to come, and might even be passed down between family members over time.

Model trains are considered a collector’s item for the most part, even though todays train enthusiasts actually use their trains because of the enjoyment they provide to them. Remember, they don’t need to be just for show, you can enjoy them anytime.

There are many train model sets that come in different sizes, from the immense types that take up your entire basement, too the smaller railway tracks. You just need to figure out what works best for you. If you want to construct a mini community that consists of miniature people, buildings, animals, trees and other landscaping items, all these item are available for you to create the perfect scene. These mini towns are a big attraction for many people.

This hobby can last a lifetime. Most modelers are enthusiastic about trains in general and have extensive knowledge on the subject.

If you want to start with this hobby there are several things which you will have to take into account. Depending on your space at home, the scale of the trains is important. The zero (0) scale is known as the sturdiest scale. It can take a beating and it is the most popular size for an indoor model train set. This size compliments most scenery and landscaping accessories.

Let your family and friends know about your hobby, and they will never not know what to get you for a gift.

RC Airplanes for Beginners

Remote control airplanes or also known as RC airplanes can be enjoyed by almost anyone with any degree of experience. With the ever increasing availability of electric RC airplanes, there’s never been a better time to try your luck at this hobby.

Some may think that this hobby is expensive and just too time consuming, but because of the wide range and variety of RC airplanes now available even a beginner with a low budget may enjoy the fun . Electric RC planes, which are much easier to make and are less expensive than the traditional gas or nitro RC planes would be the best path to follow when starting out as a beginner. Many Electric RC plane models start at less than $100, but they’re also much easier to start out with and maintain.

Ready-to-fly or RTF planes are a great place to start for beginners. Charge and fly, then let the fun begin. Some of the more popular RTF models include the very popular Super Cub LP and its smaller cousin the Champ HBZ4900, both from HobbyZone. The Firebird Commander 2 HBZ2600 is also popular, all of which let new fliers jump right in to the world of RC airplanes.

Electric RC planes require much less maintenance besides the low cost than gas RC airplanes, and are easier to get started on. A big difference between the two types of RC planes is the noise produced by the gas RC airplanes. Some of the gas RC planes are banned from many public areas because of the noise. To some the noise created adds to the authenticity for the flying experience, and for the others it may be considered a nuisance.

Gas RC plane models tend to operate more like an actual plane than the electric ones, but many electric RC airplane models now give gas ones a run for their money. Flying for longer periods of time is one of the advantages of the gas powered RC plane, but the disadvantage to this is the money it costs for fuel. RC gas planes tend to have a higher initial cost and must be maintenance. There are however still affordable gas models that beginners can find like the Sky Raider Mach I.

Selecting your first RC airplane can be a challenge. People can get excited and be tempting to go straight for a more expensive models. Higher cost planes often feature more channels that control more aspects of your plane’s flight. Beginner models usually feature two channels There are models with several more channels, the 3-channel receive controls the altitude, yawl, and pitch, while a 4-channel receiver controls the bank, pitch, yawl, and throttle. When starting out it may beifit you to buy a simpler model that will be easier to use.

Finding a good place to fly your RC plane is important. Beginners should choose large open outdoor areas free of buildings, power lines, and pedestrian traffic. The next step would be to perform a proper pre-flight check in order to avoid a damage. Your plane’s balance is a pre-flight must and you should take the time to balance your plane properly before you fly it. Another check that is important is to make sure the battery pack is installed securely and is charged.

Joining a local RC club or getting an instructor will help you learn about how to safely operate your plane, and RC plane clubs usually have designated places to fly. So go out and enjoy the fun once you have found the right RC plane for you.
