Maximizing Your Traxxas T-Maxx
The Traxxas T-Maxx remains on the top of the list for being one of the most desired RC vehicles to trick out and customize. It’s the one RC vehicle which has thousands of aftermarket parts which will allow you to make yours like no other. Popular aftermarket companies which make high quality parts for the T-Maxx include: Integy, RD Logics, Dynamite, Robinson Racing, RPM, Ultimate Engineering, Lunsford, Pro-Line, just to name a few.
Wondering where to start? First you should ask yourself what you want to do with your T-Maxx. Do you want to race it? Or do you simply want to bash around the yard? Or do you want to make a show piece? Maybe you want an all around performer that will take the abuse of large jumps, but also give you high speed performance in the street? Whatever it is that you are looking to do, you can find the parts and supplies to get it done here at RCSLOT.com.
Here’s a fully functional show-piece.

This T-Maxx is 99% aluminum. All chassis related parts are Integy. The rear exhaust is RD Logics Part# 61515P. This rear exit exhaust system is a huge improvement which will help keep things clean. There’s no loss in performance with this exhaust system and eliminating the exhaust from exiting out of the side or out of the bottom will eliminate nearly all the oil residue and build up associated with typical use.

All universal joints and shafts are RD Logics. RD Logics makes a robust & fool proof CV Shaft assembly. The included rubber boots really help keep out the dirt and dust which can cause premature failure, and the shiny shafts really add a cool touch. The Front & Rear part # is 82200. This includes two shaft assemblies, so if you need a full set (qty. 4) you will need to purchase two. The Center CV Shafts part # is 82205. This includes both center shaft assemblies, so you will only need to purchase one set.
The wheels you see here are RPM Titan Stablemaxx wheels, providing an offset which will make your T-Maxx have a wider more stable stance. Part# 81943 includes qty 2. The tires you see here are HPI GT Tires S Compound. Part#4464 includes qty 2. This is a bullet proof wheel and tire combo, perfect for off road use and rock crawling too.
Dynamite makes some incredible upgrades for the T-Maxx. Check out this Dynamite Cooling Head for the Traxxas TRX 3.3 engine. This performance cooling head really adds a nice touch to your T-Maxx. It’s available in blue and black. The black one shown here is part# 7781. It offers improved cooling over the stock Traxxas cooling head and will also fit the TRX 3.3 on your Revo, Nitro 4-Tec or Jato.

We also installed a Dynamite Servo Saver for the steering servo. Part# 8830. This servo saver is universal and includes several adapters which allow it to be installed on just about any servo. This servo saver will definitely improve the life of your steering servo. Huge improvement over a stock servo saver.
The stock Traxxas differentials are pretty reliable, but I wanted a little more traction and wheel standing action, so I installed an Integy Locked Differential Hub Spool. Part# 3691S. This solid spool replaces the differential gears inside the differential housing, supplying 100% traction and zero slippage in the rear end. Keep in mind when using locked diff’s you need to keep it off road to prevent driveline damage. If you are building a rock crawler you may want locked diff’s in the front too, but otherwise it is best to keep the standard differential in the front. If you desire a little less differential action (slippage) try using a heavier weight oil, like 50k or perhaps 100k, this will slow down the differential action.

Now for one of the most important parts; shocks. Integy makes some truly amazing shocks for a wide variety of RC vehicles. This T-Maxx has the latest from Integy, the MSR8 shock set. Part# 3664S. The Integy MSR8 shocks are incredible. They boast a 4mm shock shaft, compared to the 3mm used in previous designs. They also have much larger oil reservoirs, which allow for much greater dampening. The shock bodies are threaded so spring tension can be adjusted easily. The piggyback reservoirs contain a little foam insert which helps eliminate air bubbles which can hurt shock performance. Purchase some Integy shocks, you will not be disappointed.

This transmission is mostly stock. The reverse was removed to pick up some performance. Removing the reverse reduces some weight and also eliminates some unneeded moving parts. This modification is very easy to perform and when you buy the Traxxas Reverse Lockout it even comes with easy to understand instructions. Part# 4994X. Takes 10 minutes or less, highly recommended mod.

Robinson Racing is a very highly respected producer of aftermarket gears. They make replacement parts for every gear on the T-Maxx. If you want a truly indestructible transmission build it with Robinson Racing Parts. For a TRX 2.5 complete gear replacement you will need the following: RRP8525 Top Shaft 2 speed 17/22T, RRP8529 Fwd Primary Gear, RRP8586 Fwd Gear Kit, RRP8472 Dbl Disc Slip Kit 72T. And to add the finishing touches you should get the Robinson Racing Brake Kit too, Part# RRP8562.
Keep in mind when using aluminum or steel replacement parts you are adding weight and decreasing the performance somewhat, but you are adding strength and durability, and often good looks too. So it all depends on what you are looking for, all around performance? Top speed? Mind blowing acceleration? Wheelie popping action? Extreme flight? Regardless of what it might be, RCSLOT.com has what you are looking for.
