Don't Trust Your Aircraft With Only One Receiver

One of the most common questions asked to Spektrum is why do the full-range DSM2 aircraft systems have multiple receivers? The technical answer is path diversity, but a more simple one is to ask a question back; why not take advantage of the redundancy and added safety that multiple receivers can give your show piece model just finished after a long winter build, even if you're using a state of the art 2.4GHz system? Especially if the receivers, like Spektrum's, are small and light enough that they do not add any unnecessary weight.

Redundancy, though, is but one of three key benefits Spektrum path diversity offers. Path diversity has solved two far more technical problems that are faced by all 2.4GHz spread spectrum aircraft systems, be they direct sequence or frequency hopping. Only Spektrum's patent pending dual receiver path diversity solution has consistently proven itself for over two years where it matters most - in the field.

Eliminate Reflected Signal Fading

Signal Reflection occurs when an aircraft is in a position or maneuver that a 2.4GHz signal reflecting off a conductive surface in the aircraft arrives at the receiver exactly 180 degrees out of phase with the original signal on a direct path from the transmitter to the receiver. The result is much the same that is present with a noise canceling headset - silence. The signals cancel each other out. That is a big problem if you are using only one receiver in a larger aircraft with more conductive items that are flying at greater distances.

By using two small receivers mounted in slightly different locations, as well as two separate simultaneous signals, called DuaLink, Spektrum's path diversity solves this problem. Because each receiver is far enough apart by at least two inches with a different orientation, the odds of both experiencing signal reflection at the same exact time is so high that it is statistically impossible. Instead of having two antennas in two separate locations, Spektrum's patented system actually takes advantage of having two full functioning receivers, which allows you to customize the installation of the receiver to optimize the performance of your radio system

Eliminate Receiver Blind Spots

Signal polarization issues arise with 2.4GHz systems when the orientation of the receiver antenna is such that it can not see the signal as well. by using two receivers positioned 90 degrees from each other, Spektrum's dual path diversity ensures that the receiver can clearly see the signal regardless of your model's altitude.

Single Spektrum Receivers

If dual receivers are so great, why aren't all Spektrum receivers that way? Due to the nature of a 2.4GHz signal, issues such as signal reflection and polarization only become problematic at the greater distances larger scale model aircraft operate from the transmitter. If you will notice, the single receivers Spektrum offers are designed exclusively for use in small aircraft suc as foamies, micro helicopters, and park flyers - all less complex model aircraft are flown in relatively close proximity to the pilot. Also, the materials that many of these models are made of offer very few, if any opportunities for signal reflection.

This makes it possible for Spektrum to design super lightweight receivers that are optimized for smaller aircraft. Not to mention, Spektrum offers more for you to apply 2.4GHz RC technology than anyone else. Regardless of the type of flying you do, you can be sure that there is a Spektrum receiver available and optimized for your model.

ServoSync

ServoSync is an ingenious DSM2 feature that automatically re-sequences the bits of data being transmitted based on the type of mixing you select. For example, if you select dual elevator mixing or 3-servo CCPM, ServoSync will see to it that those servos working together receive their pulses together. The result is a more synchronized servo movement which translates into an undeniable and locked-in feel when you fly.
